Happy Cream Cheese Brownie Day!

Today we invite everyone to enjoy a brownie to celebrate! Whether it be cakey or fudgy, nuts or nut-free, this chocolate baked confection is delicious. When you add a swirl of cream cheese to it, they are impossible to resist.

The brownie was developed in the United States at the end of the 19th Century. Legend has it that Bertha Palmer, wife of the owner of Chicago’s Palmer House Hotel, requested a small cake-life confection that would be able to be included in boxed lunches. This dessert had to be suitable for the socialite ladies attending the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893. The first brownie was topped with walnuts and a delectable apricot glaze.

Of course, this isn’t the only legend related to this delightful dessert. A favorite story, which can be found in Betty Crocker’s Baking Classics, talks about a Bangor, Maine housewife who was baking a chocolate cake; however, she forgot the baking powder and her cake didn’t rise. Being flexible and ingenious, she simply cut the flat pieces and served them, rather than throwing them out.

Whatever the true story, one thing is certain: brownies are scrumptious. Happy Cream Cheese Brownie Day! Interested in more brownie-inspired delectable creations? Check out Our Best Brownie Creations blog: Our Best Brownie Creations | Human Nutrition and Health (balchem.com)
