It enables a reduction in bacterial load of typically 5 log or more on these commodities without the use of high heat or moisture, providing efficacy without affecting the sensory qualities of food products as can happen with other microbial reduction methods.
Propylene Oxide is also a useful and versatile intermediate for the production of various materials, including polyurethanes, surfactants, paints, adhesives, and propylene glycol antifreeze. Propylene Oxide is also used for the modification of starch.
