MSM

(Methylsulfonylmethane)

MSM is an organic sulfur-containing compound that plays an important role in the body.

Methylsulfonylmethane (meh·thuhl·suhl·faa·nuhl·meh·thayn) or MSM, also known as dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2) and methyl sulfone, is naturally present in small quantities in food2 (like milk, coffee, beer or tomatoes) – and provides a wide range of benefits supporting skin and joint health.

What is sulfate?

Sulfate (SO42-) is a mineral found in various foods and sources of drinking water, with multiple important roles in human nutrition.

Structural Role

Required for the synthesis of critical molecules in the body, including:
• Glutathione → antioxidant molecule
• Chondroitin Sulfate → cartilage
• Keratan Sulfate → cartilage & bone

Functional Role

Sulfur containing compounds have multiple functions in the body such as antioxidant defense and maintenance of joint tissue.2

The MSM Molecule Explained…

MSM is made up of 34% sulfur – the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body. Sulfur is an important nutrient for the maintenance of healthy joints, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissue.3

Sulfur is also a key component of collagen and a building block of keratin, supporting healthy hair, skin and nails.

MSM Provides Multiple Advantages

  • Acts as a source of sulfur in our diets2
  • Acts as a source of methyl groups in our diet4
  • Supplementation with MSM has demonstrated advantages for joint5 and skin health6
  • Supplementation with MSM helps athletes by supporting exercise recovery7

Sulfate supports several health benefits to fuel innovation.

Hair, Skin and Nails

Sulfur acts as a key structural component of the building blocks of skin and hair, including Collagen, Dermatan sulfate, and Hyaluronic acid. Helping to form Glutathione, a critical player in one of the body’s major antioxidant defense systems.8
