Copper Function In Tree Fruit

Copper Micronutrient
Posted: octubre 17, 2022

Many enzymes rely on copper for activation including those responsible for carbohydrate metabolism, protein synthesis, and seed formation. Without fertilizers it is projected that global agriculture could only sustain a population of about 4 billion people.1 That means that providing fertilizers is imperative to sustainably feeding the world. The majority of fertilizers are focused on primary nutrients necessary for plant growth. However, in recent years experts have realized the importance of micronutrients in optimizing plant growth. As the global agriculture industry elevates its understanding of producing more food for a growing population these micronutrients play a key role. Copper is one of the nutrients plants need to grow and develop properly to maximize growth and yield, especially in tree fruit.

Copper plays a key role in activation of enzymes. Essentially, it is one of the most important nutrients for plants to turn plant’s “food” into energy for healthy growth. When a plant does not have sufficient copper, it may result in chlorosis (discolored leaves) or dieback of new growth.

Cobre Metalosate® is a unique formula that contains chelated copper. Since the copper is  chelated with amino acids, plants recognize the molecule and can deliver it to the proper area very efficiently. It can do so while using a relatively low rate of the mineral, so the risk of phytotoxicity and runoff is low. In this way, Metalosate Copper provides growers with a solution to micronutrient needs, and higher return on investment.
