Meta-Analysis: 25 Years of Evidence for Choline in Dairy Cows

Rumen-protected choline has been studied for more than 25 years as a nutritional strategy for transition dairy cows. This webinar brings together findings from two complementary systematic reviews and dose–response meta-analyses: one drawing on 30 studies of feed intake, milk production, and milk composition, and the other on 29 studies of blood metabolites, lipid metabolism, and indicators of liver function. Some of the same experiments were included in both analyses. Together, the findings provide collective insights into the production and metabolic responses to rumen-protected choline and how these responses vary with supplementation dose.

PD Dr. Morteza Hosseini Ghaffari is a senior scientist at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Germany. His research focuses on animal nutrition, metabolic physiology, and data-driven approaches to dairy-cow health and resilience.

Dr. Barry Bradford is the Clint Meadows Chair in Dairy Management at Michigan State University. His research focuses on dairy cattle nutrition and metabolism, with an emphasis on translating discoveries in metabolic physiology into practical applications for animal agriculture. Bradford has contributed to more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and has delivered over 240 invited presentations worldwide.
