This session, presented by the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), offers a comprehensive look at the science behind the human-animal bond — exploring how it enhances human health and supports animal welfare. Attendees will also gain insight into how the strength of this bond shapes pet owner behavior, driving decisions around veterinary care, nutrition, and beyond.
As the Vice President of Research & Operations for the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), Lindsey Braun oversees the HABRI research grant program, which has funded more than $4 million in high-quality research projects at research universities across the globe. These research grants investigate all aspects of the health benefits of human-animal interaction (HAI) for both the people and animals involved. With her leadership role in this field, Braun has co-authored the Research, Practice, Science and Public Policy chapter of the Handbook on Animal-Assisted Therapy, as well as key papers on the impact of pets during the covid-19 pandemic and exploring public policy implications of the human-animal bond.
Lindsey also works to raise awareness of the research and its practical application in human healthcare, veterinary medicine, and public policy through developing content for the Human-Animal Bond Certification course for veterinary professionals; creating shareable science-based public educational programming and information; fostering key partnerships with like-minded organizations; and producing HABRI’s signature Washington, DC event, Pet Week on Capitol Hill.
Prior to joining HABRI, Lindsey worked at a political consulting firm in Manhattan. Lindsey holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science from Bucknell University, and resides in Rochester, NY with her family.
