Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are ozone depleting substances (ODS) controlled by the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer that are widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning, foam blowing and solvent applications.
The F-Gas Regulation protects the environment by reducing emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases through quantitative limits for the placing on the market of hydrofluorocarbons. The HFC phase-down schedule is geared to reduce HFCs placed on the market by 2030 to 21% of the annual average of the total quantity placed on the market into the European Union during the period from 2009 to 2012. According to its impact assessment, the current F-gas Regulation intends to reduce the EU’s F-Gas emissions by two-thirds by 2030 compared with 2014 levels.
In this context, Balchem has access to quotas and records of every year that F-Gases are purchased and placed on the market.
